Roof, Siding and Gutters Work as One System.

- Water leaves the roof before it leaves the house. Shingles, flashing, gutters and downspouts are one route, so a failure anywhere on it shows up somewhere else.
- Gutters are where roof problems become wall problems. Overflow at the fascia runs behind the siding and down to the foundation.
- Flashing is the usual culprit. Most of what gets called a roof leak is flashing at a chimney, a valley or a wall junction.
- Replacing one part and not the others is how it repeats. New shingles above undersized gutters buy less time than they should.

My roof has dark streaks and moss on one side. Is that serious?
It depends which one you have. The dark streaking is usually algae, and on its own it is cosmetic. Moss is the one to watch: it holds moisture against the shingles and lifts their edges over time, which is how water gets underneath. An inspection will tell you whether you are looking at a stain or at damage.
Our gutters overflow every time it rains. Can that be fixed?
We install and replace gutters, and sizing, slope and the number of downspouts all affect whether a system keeps up with the roof above it. We will tell you whether the problem is the gutters or something further up the roof. Worth dealing with either way, because the water ends up at the fascia and the foundation.
Can one company do the roof and the gutters together?
Yes, and it is usually the sensible order. Roofing and exterior services are two of our four divisions, so new gutters go on in the right order, after the roof.
